This Swedish satanic-metal project was masterminded by the enigmatic multi-instrumentalist Quothorn. The band originally comprised Quothorn (vocals, guitar), Kothaar (bass) and Vvorthn (drums), but the latter two left after recording just one or two tracks for a heavy metal compilation album.
Aided by session musicians, Quothorn decided to continue alone and recorded a series of black metal albums during the latter half of the 80s.
He attracted a cult following, many of whom were Satanists, but refrained from taking his music out on the road. Hammerheart, released in 1990, was an ambitious concept album based on Viking legend and represented his most (relatively) accessible work to date.
Further albums ensued, with 1995's Octagon including an unlikely cover version of the Kiss song "Deuce".
