Pinch's real name is Andrew Pinching (Grantham, Lincolnshire, 1965). He was a member of the English Dogs and a founding member of Janus Stark.
About the English Dogs, Pinch once said in an interview with Vinnie Apicella:
'I started The English Dogs back in 1980. I was just a school kid who was into bands like Stiff Little Fingers, The Ruts… Angelic Upstarts, stuff like that. It was really like the second wave of English Punk hadn’t really hit yet. But when it did, with bands like GBH, Discharge, The Exploited, I was like, I wanna be in a band like that! So I just got together the oldest Punk Rockers in town and because they could all play other stuff… and I’m an ex-boxer and good at using my hands, so I thought, well, the drums is for me."
Due to bad behaviour at the Kerrang! awards, he was fired in August 1999 and is the drummer of The Damned since. He replaced Spike Smith.
In an interview on Chain D.L.K. Andrew "Pinch" Pinching reveils how he joined The Damned in 1999:
"I used to be a boxer and I guess that is where I discovered drinking, music and women. Playing drums is the only thing I could do using me head. (laughter) A good friend of mine from the same town I lived in played drums for 9 gigs with The Damned. He left to join Morissey on a world tour and I got the audition. I learned 20 songs in two days and they gave me the job."
